Throughout the year John Jacobs students are introduced to the Arizona Grand Canyon Readers Award program.  Each year ten books in various categories are nominated to encourage Arizona students to read.  At JJ, Kindergarten through third grade students enjoy seeing and hearing the ten nominated picture books as part of their weekly library visits.  Fourth through sixth grade students receive a brief synopsis of the intermediate chapter books and are encouraged to read at least three of the books so that they are eligible to vote.  Voting occurs in March and the winner is announced in April.  It is always exciting to learn which book wins the award.

The purpose of the Grand Canyon Readers Award is to encourage Arizona young readers to become better acquainted with recently published quality books and to honor favorite books and authors.  The award is sponsored by the Arizona Library Association.
