What's Happening at the Library

  • PPL Library Card Drive The Phoenix Public Library (PPL) will be holding a Star Wars-themed Amazing Library Card drive in October and November.  Stop by one of the 17 city library locations to register for a card!  Cards are free to all Maricopa County residents; all you need is proof of identification.  Your library card will allow you to access a wealth of information including books, music, movies and a variety of online resources.  Each library branch also hosts special programs, including children's story times and performances by musicians and other artists.  Be sure to check and find out if your location is participating in the Star Wars Reads Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 10 - it's going to be galactic fun

  • The votes are in! The final votes have been counted for this year's Grand Canyon Reader's Award contest.  Students at John Jacobs participated in this contest and our school's votes aligned with the statewide winners.  The winning book in the Picture Book category is "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers.  This is a delightful story about different colored crayons in a little boy's box of crayons who are tired of being used to color the same things over and over.  They each write a letter to the boy and ask to be used to draw different things.  The results are heartwarming and humorous!  The winning book in the Intermediate (chapter) Book category is "Wonder" by ...

  • Thank you...... We would like to thank the First Book organization and volunteer members of Pi Beta Phi fraternity for the opportunity to receive new books for the John Jacobs library during their "Fraternity Day of Service" distribution event on Feb. 28th at the Burton Barr Library.  We received copies of various "Curious George" titles, and were able to obtain enough copies of each title to be able to provide books to each of the libraries in the WESD.  Thank you for these brand-new books which will be greatly enjoyed by the students in our district!
